More security forces for LS polls than โ€œOp basstracksโ€

2019-05-25

As many as 20 lakh security personnel were deployed in the seven-phase Lok Sabha polls, rendering the exercise bigger than India's well known 'Operation Brasstacks' in the 1980s, which was larger than any NATO exercise since World War-II, officials said Monday. The 'Operation Brasstacks' was a major military exercise of the Indian Army in Rajasthan. It took place in 1986 until its execution in 1987.  The scale of the 2019 general election itself is massive and growing over time as between 1989 and 2019, the number of parties in the fray have increased over 20 tim..

Colleges barred from holding entry test.

2019-05-22

The principals of all colleges in Bengal have been asked to admit students to undergraduate courses on the basis of their scores in class XII board exams and not through admission tests.  The colleges have been asked not to conduct entrance tests because candidates are barred from entering campuses during the admission process.  The government had earlier directed the colleges to make the entire admission process online to shield the candidates from cash-for-entry rackets. Student union leaders on a number of campuses had been accused of running such rackets in previous years. ..

Our education system is percentage orientedโ€ฆ

2019-05-21

Marking schemes have changed. The pattern of questions has changed completely. If there are straightforward questions, naturally the child will write according to the marking schemes and he/she has to be given marks accordingly. Having said that, I must admit, it’s not a good sign. But that’s how it is now. Why do you think there has been a change in the marking pattern? Earlier good marks were usually scored by the science students. Humanities students missed out because they didn’t have practicals. With practicals introduced in humanities, it has become easier for the..
